Okinawa Part 2: Ishigaki. Taketome. Beni-emo.

Jan 15, 2014

This is final instalment (part two) about our recent trip to Okinawa. Part one is here.

From Okinawa we fly by Peach airlines, a wonderful little discount airline, to Ishigaki-jima. Ishigaki-jima is a long way from Tokyo, and pretty close to Taiwan as you will see from the following picture.

We hired our first car in Japan, which I nicknamed Champy due to the colour.

Which enabled us to drive around Ishigaki-jima and see some stunning scenery.

Even though there was beauty in the natural landscape the people in Ishigaki still shown the Japanese talent for lights!

Walking around Ishigaki we found a restaurant which may be vegetarian friendly.

And probably the most accurate junk-food sign I've ever seen.

We found we could get close and personal with the Customs boats.

And discovered some people may have left their boats alone for a little too long.

One day we caught a fast ferry to Taketome-Jima and discovered a beach.

Which Shellie swam at, and was the only person swimming!

We ate Bene-imo ice-cream.

We watched a kite flying competition (I think most of the islanders were in attendance).

And we managed to photograph a butterfly we spent a while chasing across the island.

All in all our Okinawa holiday was a perfect mid-Winter break for us, and we've agreed to return to explore more.
